The Mekong Delta is considered to be the "rice
basket" of Vietnam, contributing more than 50% of the nation's rice
production. The city is famous with tourists for its floating markets.
Guests can enjoy local fruit specialties such as pomelo, longan,
jackfruit, mango and durian. Can tho is central city of Mekong Delta.
Cần Thơ is famous because of its floating markets, Cai Rang, Phung
Hiep, where people sell and buy things on the river, its bird garden
(Bằng Lăng), Ninh Kieu port and others.
Day 1: Sai Gon - My Hiep - Sadec - Can Tho - Phong Dien (L)
8:00 Pick up at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. Depart
for Cao Lanh. On arrival at My Hiep, take the motor boat to Xeo Quit
base - a former Viet Cong base. Enjoy the boat cruise around the swamps
and the forest. After lunch, cross the Upper Mekong Delta by boat to
experience fully the charms of the river. Continue to Sadec and visit
the beautiful Tu Ton flower garden. Drive to Can Tho. At Ninh Kieu
Wharf, take the boat to Phong Dien village. Join a local family for a
cookery session. Overnight at the home of your "Vietnamese family" in
the village.
Day 2: Phong Dien - Cai Rang (B/L)
7:00 After breakfast, take the morning boat trip to
the colorful Phong Dien floating market which is at its busiest at this
time of day. Keep cruising through the small channels system and visit
the rice noodle making village. Experience the "Monkey Bridge" in the
Delta. Visit a second floating market (Cai Rang). Break for lunch.
Begin the return journey to Ho Chi Minh City. Stop to rest at the
captivating Bonsai garden in My Tho. Arrive in HCM City at around 5.30pm
